Live in the Moment

May 16th, 2015 by heidi

Live in the MomentI was gallery sitting today and found time in between guests to do some painting.  I had brought my pastels and had an idea in my mind about not looking too far in the future but letting life live itself out in a freer and more peaceful manner.  As I thought of this is saw this picture of some little birdies getting a drink and I loved thinking that they pretty much live in the moment.  And God takes care of them.  He will me too.  So this is my take on this in pastel.

Greetings from Florida

March 3rd, 2015 by heidi

Well, it’s March of 2015 and it’s been an absolutely beautiful winter down here in sunny, warm Florida.  This is almost the only place in the USA that has seen a really nice winter.  Feel bad for those back home in New England.  But somehow, down here in Florida I can relax and do more art.  So I’ve done some things, a couple of pieces, but they’re a bit more creative than often is produced by me.  I’m happy about that.  Here is one that’s been a lot of fun.  ‘Sunny Side’ a collage that grew over a basic acrylic painting.  Now I want to collage and add texture and maybe some other mediums… We’ll see how that goes.

TCAA Open Show

October 18th, 2014 by heidi

I picked out the 2 newest paintings as the ones I’ll put in the TCAA Annual Open Show coming up in November.  One is a Remix of an Iris and the other completely different, a misty watercolor.  I guess this driving force within me is the only way for all of the interesting life experiences within and without to play themselves out.  Soothing, and calm and wild and energetic.  All all of that inbetween stuff.  Its amazing even to me, seeing I live with myself, that I call it a force to create in such different modes so often. I will almost be repulsed by thinking of doing the same thing too often close together.  Lucky for me that I can live out life in my ‘force driven’ way. At least concerning creating art.

Heidi with Peace After the Storm

Heidi with Peace After the StormI was thrilled to be awarded the prestigious Linda Percoski Memorial Award at the Piedmont Art Show today!  It was a very generous money award, plus I knew Linda loved creative artwork and was pleased to think she might have really liked this piece.  Linda passed away a few years ago after many years on battling cancer.  She was a very fine artist and I’ve known her for many years.  I wonder, what shall I do with this money?  Dinner? vacation? buy more art supplies? (probably)

What do you do with your demo paintings?

Hibiscus Remade

Hibiscus Remade

I teach. And this class is a watercolor class.  So I need to think of the general outlook, desire and abilities of my students.  I came across a nice picture of a hibiscus.  Very traditional in color and rendering.  Can’t do too much with a hibiscus painting (if you’re just painting one) because they are a simple, lovely flower.  So you show how to make the shadows, highlights, veins in the flowers.  Little techniques that are good to learn.  But my problem is what do I do with these demos?  Especially if I kind of like them?  Can’t show them, shouldn’t really sell them, so I remake them.  And I’m having a ball doing so.  My latest piece. “Hibiscus Remade”.  Enjoy.

Summer is Coming to New England

May 31st, 2014 by heidi

Summer will be here soon in New England.  I have to say, it is sooo pretty here in Connecticut in the spring.  I can’t always brag about the weather.  it can be pretty brutal and downright nasty at times. At any season.  Humidity, blasts of artic air and all in between.  But, hey, I have to live somewhere and there are always tradeoffs. I’ve been reconstructing some of my watercolors by collaging in them.  This is a lot of fun and it’s a great thing to do with those watercolors that you don’t know what to do with.  As far as I know, I’m the inventor of this! Whoo hoo!  But aside from that now.  That old Yankee spirit doesn’t allow for any bragging. Here’s my latest.  The storms are here to stay, but I can find peace amongst them.

Spring warmth

April 12th, 2014 by heidi

We just got back from Arizona.  Thought we’d take a trip to ‘feel’ the desert (and to clear my sinus’s).  What an amazing place.  Maybe the opposite of Florida where it’s sunny but humid.  AZ is really dry.  But the feeling is, what shall I say, ancient?  Something about it tells me there’s so much history.  Old oceans resided there, ancient native Americans roamed the many hills and rocky worn mountains.  And the Art! well, creativity reigns there.  And its well done, accomplished creative art.  For this reason alone I found kindred spirit among the living and maybe even the dead.

Here are a few art pieces I saw.  Mostly sculptures of Dale Chihuly in the Desert Botanical Garden, and also a metal piece at the Biosphere 2 in Tucson.

It’s warm here in Florida

January 31st, 2014 by heidi

I’ve been fortunate enough to get out and paint these past days.  I find it’s best for me to just work on the small side, like about 6 x 9″ in watercolor.  Hopefully I don’t get too tight.  If there’s a lot going on I get tighter and tighter becoming aware of the actions and motions of the activities going on.  So, if I can find a quiet place, I’m happy.  But you don’t always get the best paintings there.  So, just go with the flow I guess.  And keep creating art.

Happy New Year!

January 3rd, 2014 by heidi

I Wish I were a Fish is watercolor and poured watercolor
I Wish I were a Fish is watercolor and poured watercolor

Wishing you all the very best (have you heard that before?) but really I do!  If all of us did that, my, what a better world it could be.  Less about ‘me’ more about ‘us’ and living in community.  So, again, I wish you the VERY BEST!

I’ve been painting a bit.  Something I started last year and now I’ve finished it.  I think this is sometimes a good idea especially if we feel stuck and don’t know what to do next.  Just put it aside and bring it out later.  I’ve also tried to do other things, like forcing myself to finish something and having a less than satisfactory result.  As a matter of fact, in those cases, sometimes I down right hate the thing!  Not always of course, but art can be very very passionate right?  Yes.
