Happy Thanksgiving!

December 2nd, 2013 by heidi

There’s so much that I feel thankful for I won’t even begin to tell you.  But one thing is that I feel so able, and motivated to create art.  It makes me happy! I can wake up and think of this and it will put a smile on my face.  I can look at art and lose myself in it.  Well anyways, just wanted to let you know.  In all things Give Thanks.

new piece of art

November 21st, 2013 by heidi

I have a little idea mulling in my mind.  I have so much, and so very much to be thankful for.  I hate to waste things.  So I was thinking of what to do with those old watercolors or other pieces of art.  And how to repurpose them.  I came up with another purpose filled art.  it’s a watercolor done on masa paper then collaged around and over.  I like it!

Whoo hoo, got some awards!

November 4th, 2013 by heidi

What a great weekend I had!  I got 2 awards at the 24th Annual Open Show held at the South Windsor Library for the month of November, 2013.  My watercolor took 1st place!  Can you imagine?!  I was really happy.  And the caliber of art at the show was quite high.    Of course the area professional artists also won, they have such wonderful art, but I think I can count myself amongst them, right?  Anyways, the pieces were my 2 latest ones.

Making more Art

October 21st, 2013 by heidi

Till the Cows Come Home

Till the Cows Come Home

I’ve made a piece that I’m happy with and having fun with.  A wateracolor that didn’t have any pizzaz that I collaged over and around.

Then added some more to the watercolor itself.  I’ll put it in the next show and see what kind of reaction I get.  You never know, and….

I’ve come to really realize that there’s a lot that goes on to a person’s reaction to any piece of art.  They’re coming from all kinds of angles.

I’ve seen compassion, support, genuine love of the piece (not that often unfortunately), interest, technical agreement, etc etc.  So it goes.

The point is – did I accomplish what I set out to do!  Which more often has to do with me than with others.

I’ll take a picture and put it on soon.

Autumn in New England

WOODSTOCK IN THE FALL

WOODSTOCK IN THE FALL

In the rare instance that I just sit and enjoy my surrounding, I only had to look around me to see beautiful creation .

So I thought I’d take a picture and just tweet it a little.  I have fun with some of the computer art apps and programs.  For this picture I simply applied the watercolor filter and enhanced the saturation.  Just enough to make a nice little painting look to it.

Sailing in October

October 4th, 2013 by heidi

I’ve only been sailing a handful, not even full, of times, but I went yesterday and what a great day it was.  I got some really interesting shots of the sails going up as well as that beautiful shimmering ocean water.  A memory not soon forgotten

Sparkles upon the water never cease to fascinate me.

Art in the Summer

August 1st, 2013 by heidi

I’m not sure why it seems to be busier in the summer.  There’s as many hours in the day as other times of the year, and I feel like I even accomplish more when it’s warm and sunny.  But there it is, I just feel like I don’t have enough time to paint!  I’m not saying that I’m not painting, I am, just not as much.  Alas, I still love the ‘sport’.  It’s such a driving force within, why not just feed it with prolific amounts of creative fodder.  OK, I will then!

Spring in the Art world

May 20th, 2013 by heidi

As I live in the middle of Spring in New England, I can’t help but feel the joy I see all around me.  It’s particularly beautiful this Spring, maybe because of the long hard winter endured this year.  The flowering trees are just phenomenal.  Of course I mention all of this as I see in my minds eye challenges on how to paint all of it!  Flowering trees, done loosely in watercolor, for an example, can be quite a challenge.  Large, mid and small shapes of color will do it. But to make it look believable as well as painterly is the challenging part.

So, I’ll keep my camera handy and snap away.  Fill up my ‘painting ideas’ folder more and more and just revel in the ideas and excitement they cause.

busy summer

August 14th, 2012 by heidi

well, I’m home from a dream vacation to Hawaii where my daughter got married.  Wow, it couldn’t have been more beautiful!  The flowers, colors, lushness, and even the fact that it’s remained fairly unspoiled by commercialism (except Oahu).  Still to be on an island with just the massive amounts of stars, and clean turquoise water all around you is an amzaing thing.  I have some great pictures that are mulling around in my brain.  I just have to get over the jet lag (12+hours of flying time) but that will happen soon.  Then, happy memorable painting!
